Diabetic and Disappointed?
Let’s Change That!

As we mentioned earlier, there are approximately 20 million people in the United States diagnosed with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. That’s a lot of folks…. consisting of young kids, old kids, young adults, old adults, rich people, poor people, professional people, trades people, cooks, janitors, teachers, star athletes, soccer moms, you name it. And it doesn’t pick on anybody in particular except for the uninformed and then, those who refuse to take control.

Within our diabetic community, there’s going to be a whole spectrum of attitudes, and regardless of each person’s outlook, one thing remains constant amongst us; the benefits or consequences of diabetes are in direct correlation to the choices we make in managing our situation. They are the same for each of us.……we can’t change that, but we CAN change our attitudes, which in turn will affect how we approach this challenge!

So let’s break this down a little bit so we can all be winners with our diabetic challenge. Blood glucose control is the key and it stems from a pretty simple relationship that exists between carbohydrates and insulin. We don’t need to worry about the physiological complexity behind the scenes; we only need to know that there is a correlation between carbohydrates, insulin and blood glucose. The challenge is in:

  • Determining our individual relationship between carbohydrates and insulin.
  • Having the discipline to control how many carbohydrates we consume each day.

Sound daunting? Well, it’s really not and in this website we simplify the process for you; then, it’s just a matter of you taking action.

When I look at all the illnesses that are out there or the variety of complications people are afflicted with, I think we are a pretty lucky group. We are not destined for the complications related to diabetes if we control our blood glucose levels. We have a variety of tools, information, support and technology that help us to take control of our situation until…..who knows, maybe a cure. :) And you know what…I want to be in as good a shape as possible should that day come about. And if it doesn’t……I still want to be in as good a shape as I can. :) We are very lucky, so take control and find someone else to feel sorry for!

“If you want to know your past – look into your present conditions. If you want to know your future – look into your present actions.” ~ Chinese proverb

“Feeling sorry for yourself, and your present condition, is not only a waste of energy but the worst habit you could possibly have.” ~ Dale Camegie

Diabetes can be pretty sinister. The results of mismanagement won’t show immediately and simply taking your medication isn’t enough. Testing once a week isn’t enough. It will forestall things but it won’t prevent the complications you’re destined for. There is no getting around it…… poor blood glucose control WILL result in complications and as complications start to develop, it will be harder to put things on your side. This website's intention is to help you understand all aspects of good blood glucose control by providing a site that gives you access to the latest research, lessons learned from my personal experience, and resources such as children's camps and community forums. In other words, a foundation of knowledge.  We are not a replacement or a substitute for your doctor's medical advice.
